A RICTAT-qualified hydrotherapist and registered nurse with a private discrete home-based treatment service

I'm Katie — a registered nurse with 15 years' clinical experience and a qualified colon hydrotherapist with RICTAT (the UK's professional colonic register).

I know that booking your first session takes courage. Clients have told me they were nervous before their first appointment - and relieved afterwards.

We operate a fully insured and DBS checked private home clinic in Bridgwater, with complete discretion, no reception desk and no shared waiting areas.

We start with an initial consultation where I will explain every step before it happens. Nothing begins until you feel ready to progress. You remain in control throughout your visit.

Our treatments usually last up to one hour, are in a private room and use modern equipment that adopts warm filtered water in a closed system.

There is no mess, no odour, and your dignity is maintained throughout.

    Is it embarrassing?

Not at all. You'll be in a private room with just me the whole time. After a small tube is gently inserted, you're completely covered. The system is fully enclosed — there's no mess and no odour. I've treated hundreds of clients and I completely understand the sensitivity involved. Most people tell me they felt far more at ease than they expected.

    Is it painful?

For most people, no. You might feel some gentle fullness or mild cramping as the water enters the colon, similar to needing to use the bathroom. These moments are brief. I control the water pressure and temperature throughout and work at your pace. Many clients find the experience surprisingly relaxing.

What actually happens during a session?

You'll change into a towel in a private changing area. Once you're comfortable on the treatment bed, I'll gently insert a small, single-use tube — this takes a few seconds. Warm, filtered water then flows gently into the colon through a closed system. As the water softens and loosens waste, it's carried away through the tubing. I'll use gentle abdominal massage to help the process. The treatment lasts around 45 minutes, and you'll have full privacy in the bathroom afterwards.

What should I do to prepare?

Eat and drink lightly in the two hours before your appointment. If you can, try to have a bowel movement beforehand — it's helpful but not essential. That's it.

    Who has colonic hydrotherapy?

All sorts of people. About half my clients come with specific digestive symptoms — bloating, constipation, IBS-type discomfort, sluggish digestion. The other half come for general wellbeing: they want more energy, clearer skin, or to feel lighter and less weighed down. Some come as part of a seasonal cleanse or detox programme.

How do I know if I'd benefit?

Common signs that your digestive system could use support include: persistent bloating, constipation, fatigue, brain fog, skin breakouts, bad breath, or a general sense of heaviness. If any of these sound familiar, an initial consultation is a good starting point — we'll discuss your health history and I'll advise honestly whether colonic hydrotherapy is appropriate for you.

Are there any reasons I shouldn't have a colonic?

Yes — there are some medical conditions where colonic hydrotherapy isn't appropriate, including active inflammatory bowel disease, recent bowel surgery, and certain heart or kidney conditions. This is exactly why I take a full health history before any treatment. My nursing background means I can assess this properly and I'll always tell you honestly if it's not the right option for you.

    Why choose a nurse-led clinic?

My 15 years as a registered nurse means I understand your body as a whole system, not just the treatment in isolation. I can read your health questionnaire with clinical eyes, spot potential contraindications, and adapt the treatment to your specific needs. It also means I'm bound by the professional standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and I'm registered with RICTAT — the UK's professional body for colon hydrotherapists.

    How will I feel afterwards?

Most clients feel lighter, more comfortable, and surprisingly energised. Some describe it as one of the best feelings they've had in months. You can carry on with your normal day straight away. Occasionally, you might feel a little light-headed for a few minutes — this passes quickly and is a normal part of the process.

What should I eat after a session?

Keep it gentle. Salads, vegetable soups, broths, fruit, or fresh juices are ideal. Avoid heavy, processed, or rich foods for the rest of the day — think of it as giving your digestive system a fresh start.

Can it help with my skin?

Often, yes. Your skin is one of the body's elimination organs. When the colon, liver, or kidneys are under strain, the skin picks up the slack — which can show as breakouts, dullness, or irritation. By supporting proper elimination through the colon, clients frequently notice clearer, brighter skin over a course of treatments.

Will it help with long-term constipation?

Constipation is one of the most common reasons clients come to me, and colonic hydrotherapy can be very effective. A sluggish colon that's been struggling for years often needs a series of treatments to restore proper muscle tone and function. I'll advise on the right number of sessions and also discuss diet, hydration, and lifestyle factors that make a real difference.

How many sessions do I need?

Tell me about the treatment frequencies and how colonics could affect me.

Click on + for your answers

    Will one session be enough?

One session will make a noticeable difference — most clients feel significantly better. But if you've been living with digestive issues for a long time, a single treatment won't clear everything. Waste that's built up over years is often compacted and hard, and it takes a series of gentle sessions to work through it. I'll give you an honest recommendation after your first treatment.

    How often should I come?

This depends on your goals. For acute digestive issues, I typically recommend two to three sessions over four to six weeks as a starting course. For ongoing maintenance, many clients come monthly or seasonally. I'll always give you a personalised recommendation — I'd rather you come less often and get genuine benefit than sell you sessions you don't need.

    Are colonics habit-forming?

No. The goal is to strengthen your colon so it works better on its own. Colonic hydrotherapy exercises the colon muscles, improving the natural contractions that move waste through your system. Some clients notice that bowel movements take a day or two to resume after a treatment — this isn't dependency, it's simply because the colon has been thoroughly emptied and needs time to refill. Over a course of treatments, most clients find their natural bowel function actually improves.

    What are the practical details?

Tell me about the clinic, appointments, bookings, costs and the equipment you use.

How long does an appointment take?

Your initial consultation is 1.5 hours, which includes the health assessment, clinic tour, discussion, and your first treatment. Follow-up sessions are 1 hour. The treatment itself is around 45 minutes, with time either side for changing and freshening up.

    What equipment do you use?

I use a modern closed-system colonic hydrotherapy unit with multi-stage water filtration. All tubing and speculums are single-use and disposable — nothing is reused between clients. The clinic meets the highest standards of infection control, drawing on my NHS training in clinical hygiene.

    Where is the clinic?

I'm centrally located in Bridgwater, Somerset, easily accessible from Taunton, Glastonbury, Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, and most towns in the county. The clinic is in my home — you'll park on the drive and come straight in. No shared entrances or waiting rooms!

    How do I book?

You can book online here, call or text me on 07368 215161, email info@hydrobalancetherapies.co.uk, or message me on WhatsApp. I'll usually reply within a few hours.
